The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
The "Name of the Star" is generally a fiction mystery novel based on the cases of Jack the Ripper and his murders during the 1880s with an immoral mode of narration . However, as this novel was published during the year 2011, it is made to give of a more modern atmosphere such as when the narrator better known as the main character said, "Obviously... shower foots."(Johnson 100)
The sentences are normally long do to nature of this books mystery and tendency to describe the settings.
While describing such settings, the author starts with the main character, Aurora, feelings about her surroundings; with actual description following. Other long sentences such as when Aurora said, "That's shameful... goes horizontal."(Johnson 100) consist of multiple independent clauses joined together by dependent clauses by conjunction, forming compound sentences.
There are many punctuation's that are used perfectly to convey a sense of of suspense, and mystery while at the same time giving the situations a sense dramatic pauses. The syntax changes do not really affect the stories level of understanding nor does it change the meaning as this book is meant to increase the readers curiosity of what will happen next.
